OSHA and NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) require fire watch guards to be deployed in buildings and job sites with inactive fire safety systems. If your facility’s alarms or sprinklers are down for more than four hours, a fire marshal could order a shutdown or evacuation. Your regular staff cannot perform fire watch duties, only trained professionals are authorized to conduct fire watch.
To keep your facility safe, compliant, and fully operational, contact Alpha Eagle Security and take advantage of our professional fire watch services.
Partnering with a fire watch provider is an essential part of any risk management plan. The team of experts at Alpha Eagle Security, trained with industry-leading standards, ensures your facility remains safe, compliant, and productive.

Fire alarm and fire suppression systems usually help prevent fires in buildings; however, during malfunctions or outages, the building is left without any form of automated monitoring.
This risk increases significantly in situations such as exposure to environmental fire threats, aging electrical infrastructure, or the performance of high-heat activities like welding.
In such cases, Fire Watch personnel maintain an active on-site presence, taking responsibility for monitoring, identifying fire hazards, and promptly notifying the appropriate authorities, effectively filling the gap left by non-operational systems.

A fire watch guard is responsible for overseeing and monitoring areas or buildings where fire protection systems (such as sprinklers, smoke detectors, or fire alarm systems) are temporarily out of service or during fire-related emergency situations. Their primary duty is to provide fire protection services, including identifying and responding to potential fire hazards, ensuring the safety of people on-site, and taking immediate action in the event of a fire.
OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) require that trained fire watch guards be deployed at workplaces with a high risk of fire. Fire watch is typically necessary when built-in fire protection systems, such as smoke detectors or sprinklers, are not functioning. It is also required in areas prone to wildfires or during large public events. Additionally, according to law, fire watch is mandatory when performing “Hot Work” activities, such as welding, cutting, or brazing, in locations without permanent fire protection systems.
Fire watch guards receive specialized training in fire prevention, fire safety regulations, and emergency response procedures. They must have sufficient knowledge of fire hazards, emergency exit routes, and the correct use of fire extinguishers. Depending on local regulations, obtaining certifications such as Fire Safety Director or an official fire guard license may also be required.
The duration that fire watch guards must remain on-site depends on the specific conditions and safety requirements. This period can range from a few hours to several days or even longer. Factors such as the downtime of fire protection systems, the level of fire risk, and the length of construction work, hot work, or special events influence this duration.
Fire watch guards must keep their main focus on fire prevention and rapid response in emergency situations. While patrolling, they may assist with limited tasks such as access control or reporting suspicious activity, but their primary responsibility is always monitoring fire hazards and taking immediate action if an incident occurs.
Assessing and managing fire risks is only possible by qualified professionals, and your current staff cannot perform this duty. Alpha Eagle Security provides simple and reliable fire watch services, giving you peace of mind. We offer a customized quote and deploy our guards to your site in the shortest possible time. Our experts ensure that all “Hot Work” operations are safe and fully compliant with regulations.
